Wayzata, minnesota - Gerald Thomas McCourtney was born on July 13, 1941, in Le Center, Minnesota. On August 27, 1960, he married the love of his life, Karen, beginning a partnership that lasted a lifetime.

A few years into their marriage, Gerry joined the plastics molding company that his father, Don, had started. With Don's ingenuity and entrepreneurial vision and Gerry's drive and tenacity, the small operation grew into an internationally recognized company. Under Gerry's leadership, McCourtney Plastics expanded beyond its humble beginnings and even manufactured components for early pacemakers—a contribution that later became personally meaningful when Gerry himself needed one.

Gerry and Karen spent 33 years in their dream home on Lake Minnetonka. He took pride in overseeing every detail of its renovation, creating a space that reflected his meticulous eye, thoughtful design, and love of gathering family and friends.

An avid golfer, Gerry was a member of Wayzata Country Club from 1976 until the end of his life. He won several invitational tournaments over the years. During the winter months, he and Karen enjoyed their time in West Palm Beach, Florida, where Gerry spent his days golfing.

Gerry will be remembered for his sharp mind, dry humor, stoic nature, and pragmatism. He battled severe heart disease for 45 years without complaint—a testament to his strength, determination, and remarkable commitment to daily exercise, even when it was challenging.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Karen; his children, Mark (Ann Marie), Stephen (Nicole), and Rochelle Gredvig (Greg); his grandchildren, Connor (Serena), Daniel (Katelyn), Catherine (Eric), Patrick (Anneliese), Kellyn (Gian), Gabrielle, Zed, Riley, MacKenzie, and Jase; and his great-grandchildren, Julia and Piper. They, along with all who loved him, will carry his stories, lessons, and love forward. His presence will be profoundly missed and forever treasured.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn and Donald McCourtney, his brother, Patrick and his niece, Katy McCourtney. He is also survived by his sisters Kathy Holt (John), Maureen Caron, Mary McCourtney (Jerry), and Colleen McCourtney.
