Dr. George Kemble Montgomery Obituary

Minneapolis, Minnesota - Dr. George Kemble Montgomery passed away August 7th in the company of his family. He leaves his loving wife Karen, sons - Michael, Joseph (Dana), and Matthew (Lindsay), grandsons, Dominic and Louis, and many loving friends. He completed his BA degree in 1964 and volunteered for active duty in Vietnam. He was commissioned as a Lt. and commanded a Swift Boat along the coastal shores. He returned home and completed his education in Psychology earning both his Master's and PhD from the University of Illinois. He then joined the faculty of the Psychology department at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Then his family moved to Minneapolis where he created and directed the outpatient traumatic brain injury clinic at Sister Kenny Institute until his retirement in 2013. He wrote and published in multiple professional journals. His work and passion helped countless families, and his expertise was often requested for litigations where he aimed to teach all in the courtroom about traumatic brain injury to provide deeper context to his assessments. Always a teacher. A scholar by nature, he was rarely seen without a book or a lesson of some kind - always looking to tackle the impossible, such as learning to play the piano and his never-ending love for golf. Along with his life of work, he loved those around him with purity and joy. He laughed loudly, easily, and often. He found the funny in life even when it was hard to see. He was a booster and supporter and reveled in seeing those around him succeed. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a wonderful man, and he will be missed by those that knew him. Services will be held at St. Davids Episcopal Church in Minnetonka, MN on Saturday, Sept 6 at 10am. In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorials be sent to NPR/Public Broadcasting to keep public broadcasting alive. https://www.npr.org/donations/support Private burial service will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
