Mpls, MN - George Anthony Hartson was born on August 12, 1955, he passed away on October 7, 2025. Preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Virginia Hartson of Austin, MN, survived by his sisters, Theresa Hartson of Columbia Heights, MN, and Laurie Hartson of Elgin, TX.
George was lovingly adopted soon after his birth. The family lived in Lyle, MN, until they moved to Austin, MN in 1965. He graduated from Austin High School in 1973 and earned his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Minnesota, followed by a Master's Degree in Agriculture Management from the Vermont School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Devoted to service, George dedicated his life to his country both internationally and domestically. He spent three years in the Peace Corps in the Philippines. After returning to Minneapolis, he worked at the US Department of Agriculture-APHIS, where he earned numerous awards. In retirement, he advocated for unprivileged children to attend YMCA Camp Olson and served on its board of directors.
George performed with the Minneapolis Southside Singers. He loved to garden, travel and was a prolific reader. He was well known for his charisma, generosity, and skilled storytelling. He wove a beautiful tapestry of lifelong friendships.
Memorial service and interment, Friday, Nov 14th at 1:00 pm at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis (3600 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN).
A celebration of life will follow the interment from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Women's Club of Minneapolis (410 Oak Grove St., Minneapolis, MN).
