Gene was a proud member of the United States Air Force serving for 30 years. He was stationed all over the US and overseas.
Gene enjoyed cars, building model planes and reading.
Survived by his wife Barbara Jean Horbal, son John ( Melissa Gould), grandson Lucas, daughters Laurie Eckstrum, Sheryl Horbal, step-daughters Robin Herfert, grandson Lt. Jake Hyzy USAF, Cindy Bowman (Bill).
Preceded in death by parents and brother Bill.
In lieu of a formal service read a book to a child or share a meal with a senior who normally dines alone.
Memorials preferred to Minneapolis Children's Hospital or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
