Hutchinson, MN - Gayle E. Anderson passed away on February 20, 2025 in Hutchinson, Minnesota, after a life rich with family, service, and craftsmanship.
Born in Minneapolis to Roy and Olive Anderson, Gayle grew up alongside his three brothers. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and served honorably in the U.S. Navy. During his college years, he met Maryanne Lee, and their long-distance courtship endured through his military service. They married in August 1955 and built a life together in Minneapolis, raising three children in their beloved "Oakland house."
Gayle had a distinguished career at Univac Corporation, where he rose to the position of Vice President of Design and Drafting. After many years, he accepted early retirement at age 57 following a corporate merger.
Retirement marked the beginning of a second career rooted in his love for woodworking. He built grandfather clocks for Kuemple Chime Clockworks in Excelsior—where only grandfathers crafted grandfather clocks—and later transitioned to clock repair at Blackstone Manor in Hopkins. Even as his eyesight declined, Gayle continued to service clocks for churches, nursing homes, and private homes throughout his community.
He and Maryanne remained active members of Diamond Lake Church and shared many cherished friendships. Their family adventures took them across the country to visit loved ones in Florida, Ohio, and Colorado. In Hutchinson they also found a church home with St. John's Conservative Christian Church in Biscay.
Gayle was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Olive Anderson; brothers Roy Jr. and Roger; grandson Nathan Johnson; and many dear friends and extended family. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Maryanne; brother Melvin (Judy) Anderson; children Yvonne (Troy) Wensloff, Steven (Ann) Anderson, and Scott (Marsha) Anderson; and grandchildren Benjamin Mangum, Patrick and Zachary Wensloff, Tony and Brad Campbell.
A private celebration of life for both Gayle and Maryanne will be held by immediate family at a future date.
May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
