Duluth, MN - Gary John Hammerstrom, of Duluth MN, 64, passed away in December 2025. While his passing was unexpected, we celebrate his returning home. In the words of 2 Corinthians 5:8; "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord".
He loved spending time with his children at the beach, catching a movie, or enjoying a shopping trip. These moments were always filled with his favorite topics: faith, hope, and big dreams. He was the kind of Dad that could make big adventures out of small moments, and told the most incredible bedtime stories, aka "safari stories".
As the second oldest of three siblings, there was never a dull moment, especially on cross country family road trips that resulted in memories of quite a few mischievous escapades.
Gary had an entrepreneurial spirit and spent his career building companies and writing business plans. Afterwards, he spent his days studying and writing about Jesus's love. He could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger about love and faith, and connect with them.
We carry forward his legacy of bold faith and ambition, and we find peace knowing he is home.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Hammerstrom.
He is survived by his father, Howard Hammerstrom; brother, Mark (Justy) Hammerstrom; sister, Kathy (Brent) Nelson; children, Christina Hammerstrom, Daniel Hammerstrom; nieces, Alexandra (Andrew) Commers, and Ruth Nelson; nephews, Westin Hammerstrom, Benjamin (Madeline) Nelson; great-niece, Sophia Commers; and aunt, Karen Pietila.
