St. Paul, Minnesota - Elizabeth "Betty" Maetzold, 98, passed peacefully on August 27, 2025, surrounded and celebrated by family. Just shy of her 99th birthday, she leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and devotion to family.

Born Elizabeth Mary Kosec in Red Wing, Minnesota, she trained as a nurse before marrying Jim Maetzold in 1949. Together they raised four children, Susan, Charlie, Mary, and David, first in Le Sueur and later in Edina, Minnesota. After Jim's retirement, they moved to Naples, Florida, where they enjoyed hosting family and friends, traveling, and collecting antiques. Jim passed away in 1997, and Betty later returned to Minneapolis, settling at Becketwood Cooperative, where she spent two decades bringing her special light and energy to her neighbors there. Betty left a significant and lasting impression on those who knew her. She was thoughtful, wise, and always more interested in listening than speaking. Known as "Tutie" to her grandchildren, she delighted in their company and celebrated every milestone. Creative and stylish, she expressed herself through clothing, painting, needlepoint, music, and her memorable cooking, most famously her mac & cheese. She traveled widely, appreciated beauty in all forms, and never missed an opportunity to encourage or celebrate those she loved. In 2016, she marked 50 years of sobriety, a source of great pride.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents, Reinhold and Rose, and sister, Margaret (Peggy). She is survived by her four children, Susan (Tom) Moss, Charlie (Linda), Mary (Steve) Kissinger, and Dave (Kristen); ten grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on October 10th in the Chapel at The Episcopal Church home, 1830 University Ave West, St Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Employee Assistance Fund at www.episcopalhomes.org/give
