Mpls - Edith Shumaker, age 94, passed away June 3, 2025. Edith was born in Bovey, MN to Matt Shumaker and Maude (Peterson) Shumaker. Her early education was at the Shumaker School near her home. Edith was a graduate of Greenway High School, Itasca Community College and the Univ. of MN. Edith was employed 35 years at Abbott-Northwestern Hospitals as a medical technologist and cytotechnologist. She was a member of the Univ. of MN Alumni Assoc., served on the boards of Grace Trinity Church and Mpls. Council of Churches. In retirement, Edith volunteered at the Hennepin County Humane Society. She is credited with spearheading their Canine Adoption Preparation Program. Edith's interest in history took her to many Civil War sites, as well as Finland and Ireland. Edith's surviving cousins and many friends will miss her keen intelligence, humor and warmth. Regretfully, no memorial service is planned.
