Edith Anelma Boos (Penttinen) Obituary

Mpls - 90 of Minneapolis, passed away at home in Brooklyn Park on December 21, 2025, due to complications from a stroke. Edith was born in Toad Lake Township to Lempi Maria and Viljo (William) Henrik Penttinen on 8/21/35. She graduated Frazee H.S. in 1953 and moved to the cities. "Edie" married Robert Boos in 1965. She worked at a bank, White Castle, and ultimately, she retired from a 30-yr career at the Minneapolis Star Tribune Newspaper.

Edie was fiercely independent, smart, talented, and creative. She lived in MPLS for 68 years. Edie was a great baker and a lifelong sewist. She made over 1,000 quilts in her lifetime. Edie did charity (CEAP) quilting on Mondays for more than 20 years and was a truly amazing person who believed in charity and volunteerism. She was strong, brave, had Sisu, and was 100% Finnish.

She is survived by her son Craig Penttinen (Jennifer) and daughter Mary Jo Thor (Mike Hofferber), her brother Richard, three grandchildren (Laila and Chloe Thor, Grant Penttinen), nieces Kirstin Saulsbury (Tom), Erin Pettigrew (Eric), Brother-in-law Harvey Arola and nephews Jeff (Rita) and Bruce (Kerry) Arola.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, brother Edwin, sister Stella, and granddaughter Tiffany.

The family does not desire gifts, but Edie's favorite charity, is the Salolampi Foundation (www.salolampi.org) and conducted summer camp scholarship fundraising for Finnish-American kids.

Craig and Mary Jo will hold a celebration of life in late spring when Pink Lady Slippers are in bloom "up North" and a luncheon in the cities – tbd.
