Douglas Marc Clancey Obituary

Eden Prairie - 59, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on November 4th, 2025. Born on January 7th, 1966, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he was a devoted father, a loving son, and a light in the life of so many.

Doug was known for his mind as well as his heart. He was a hard worker since childhood but always made sure to take care of his family and whichever German Shepherd they had at the moment. He graduated with a degree in Mathematics from Michigan State University in 1988. In 1998, he earned two Masters degrees – one in Mathematics and one in Computer Science - from the University of Minnesota, which he parlayed into a successful career as a senior level software engineer.

Although his brilliance was obvious, he was also known for his personality. Whether it was his belly laugh or the fits of chuckles he drew from other people, whenever he was near hilarity could be heard for hours. His devotion was unmatched too; every birthday, holiday, celebration, or small moment, he was there with the patience of a saint and the love of a thousand. Not to mention, he had a keen sense of adventure, a trait that drew him all over the world, including the cramped seat of his car that he lived in on a whim in Colorado.

He loved skiing, soccer, and hiking - loves he devoutly passed down to his daughter. Every weekend, he could be found standing on the slopes watching her ski, or on the sidelines coaching her soccer team. He adored everything blue, especially the light blue skies of Boulder, Colorado, the deep blue depths of Lake Michigan, and the blue hues of the snows he skied.

Doug is survived by his daughter, Lauren Clancey; his mother, Patricia Miller; his siblings, Sharon Sterrett (Dale), Paula Baker (Bob), Phil Clancey (Lisa); his parenting partner and lifelong friend, Deborah Herrera; and of course, the ten pound hounds, Hershey and Pebbles - not to mention the countless other people that loved and were loved by him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 20th with a viewing from 4 PM to 7 PM and a service at 7 PM at Huber Funeral Home, Eden Prairie Chapel, 16394 Glory Ln. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in his name. PO Box 860647 Minneapolis, MN 55486-0647.

A life well lived, but too short, he will be remembered well.
