Clearwater, MN - Dorand Kim Nelson "Kim", 76, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 4. Kim was born June 23, 1949. He grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota. At St. Cloud Tech High School, Kim was a champion springboard diver. Kim served honorably in the Army in Vietnam in 1968-69.

Kim's many adventures include three extended, around the world journeys that took him to China, Tibet, Nepal, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, Tanzania, Kenya, and most of Europe. His extensive and artistic photographic catalog of these trips is still being explored. Closer to home, he was a frequent visitor to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and the Quetico wilderness area.

Kim was employed as a stonemason, but he was an exceptional craftsman in many areas. He personally built/rebuilt the house in which he lived for the last 30 years.

Kim was a devoted companion and caretaker to his African Raven, Lilly, and his three border collies Captain, Sparrow, and Spotsy, He is survived by his brothers Craig and Todd, and sister Jody. Kim had no children, but was a beloved uncle to Natalie, Pascale, Leif, Birgitte, Nora, and Kate.

A gathering of family and friends will take place at the Olde Brick House Pub in St. Cloud, Minnesota (102 6th Ave. South) from 3PM to 6PM on March 21. An informal ceremony will begin at 4PM.
