Donald Russell Obituary
Mpls - Born November 2, 1926 in Ely, MN to Carroll and Siame (Kero) Russell and passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the Minneapolis VA hospital. After graduating from Excelsior High School, he enlisted in the Navy Air Corps at the age of 17. A passionate athlete, he hitchhiked out west and took a job with the Aspen Ski company after receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy. The following summer he and a few friends founded the Aqua Bats water ski team, which performed on area lakes. He was also an avid golfer (3 handicap) and fan of all sports. In his early twenties, he began his career in real estate, first as an agent, then as a home designer and builder completing over 50 houses over the years, as well as many renovations and remodels. Predeceased by his parents, Lady the dalmatian-lab wonder dog, and many friends. Survived by Georgia, his wife of 70 years, daughter Nancy (Mark) and son Tom. Many thanks to the Minneapolis Veterans home for the excellent, compassionate care they provided. A memorial service will be held in the spring.
