Donald Wayne Longshore Obituary

Donald Wayne Longshore passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, at the age of 91, surrounded by his family.

Don was born on August 29, 1933, to John and Frances (Simms) Longshore in Columbus, Ohio. He grew up on a farm, attended Big Walnut High School, and earned a mechanical engineering degree from Ohio State University. On August 24, 1963, he married Diane (VanderHout), and together they had two daughters, Debbie Benoit and Daun Longshore.

Don started his career at Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee, where he earned several patents as Chief Engineer and later Manager of Engineering of the agricultural tractor division. He later worked for Shank Power Products in West St. Paul, MN, where he served as president for many years.

A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Don will be remembered for his dedication to his family. He was thoughtful, hard-working, kind, humble, witty, patient and generous. He loved sports, particularly football, and was a diehard fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Green Bay Packers. Don also had a passion for classic cars, traveling, and enjoying a good Brandy Manhattan.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; his brother, Robert Longshore; and his sisters, Shirley Mertel and Carole Bell. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Benoit, and son-in-law, Jeff Benoit, of Nipomo, CA; his daughter, Daun Longshore, and son-in-law, Chris Tabone, of Chicago, IL; and grandchildren Caitlin Benoit and Andrew Benoit. He is also survived by his brother, Randy Longshore, and many nieces and nephews.

Don lived his life with unwavering integrity, always guided by the principle of treating others with respect. He was deeply admired and respected by his family, friends, and peers. Through his actions and kindness, he made the world a better place. He will be profoundly missed.
