Eden Prairie, MN - Donald Dean Brattebo, 94, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side.

Don was raised in Story City, Iowa, then spent most of his life in West Des Moines and Urbandale, Iowa, before moving to Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

After graduating from Story City High School in 1949, Don attended Upper Iowa University, where he played quarterback for the Peacocks. Upon graduating in 1953, Don attended Marine Corps Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. In March 1954, Don married Patsy Shaffer. They recently celebrated 72 years of marriage rooted in devotion, humor, and steadfast loyalty.

Don taught his three sons to fish, hunt, garden, and compete with integrity while modeling discipline, honor, faith, and the quiet satisfaction of doing one's best.

Don was a devoted member of First Christian Church of Des Moines. He spent 30 years at Equitable Life of Iowa, then joined The Principal Financial Group as Executive Vice President of Securities and Investments. Colleagues remembered him as "the consummate people person."

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Patsy; his sons, Eric, Craig (Jeanine), and Douglas; and his grandchildren, Benon, Owen, and Fraya Brattebo.Services have been held. www.Washburn-McReavy.com
