Karlstad, MN - On November 24, 2025 our well-loved brother Dean left this life to live with his Lord and Savior. The savior who was as constant source of strength throughout his life.
Dean was born on October 25, 1940, in Hallock, MN. He grew up in Karlstad, MN with his parents Alvin and Bertha Turnwall and five siblings: Carol, Elaine, Faye, Gregor and Hollis. Dean graduated from Karlstad High School and Bemidji State College. Dean served the nation that he loved as an Air Force officer in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he lived in Minneapolis, MN and worked for Bemis and later Dayton Hudson and Target. He was the manager of tax audits. While in Minneapolis, Mount Olivet Lutheran Church was his home church. He served on the council and ushered for 30 years.
His family was very important to Dean. He always wanted to know how everyone was doing brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He cared for all of us. Dean also served as the family banker, so long as we understood we paid him back with interest!
Dean is survived by his brothers Gregor and Hollis (Carolyn), and his sisters Elaine Pumaren and Faye Aaker, along with many nieces and nephews.
Our family is grateful for the kindness and care provided by the staff at the Karlstad Senior Living. Arrangements provided by Whispering Pines Funeral & Cremation Service, serving Northern Minnesota.
