David Marshall Carver Obituary

Bloomington, MN - David Marshall Carver, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, went to be with Jesus on April 8, 2026, at the age of 82. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Carver; his parents, Francis and Dorothy Wilson Carver; his brother, Jim Carver; and his brothers-in-law, Richard Hardwig, Richard Dewey, and Fred Bridges. Dave battled Alzheimer's disease for almost a decade and died peacefully in his sleep.

Dave was born in Spencer, Iowa, on October 29, 1943, and grew up in Waverly, where he graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1962, proud to be a Go-Hawk. He enjoyed playing basketball and football in high school, while also working at Meyer's Drug and Carver Lumber. He admired his parents, Francis and Dorothy, for the way they raised him and the work ethic they instilled in him, and felt the same gratitude toward the adults in the Waverly community who had a positive influence on his life.

It was also in Waverly where Dave's love of Scouting took root. After many years of scouting, he took a memorable trip to Philmont Scout Ranch and earned his Eagle Scout, an achievement he carried with pride throughout his life. As an adult, he served as a troop leader for several years through Christ Presbyterian Church, giving back to the same program that had shaped him. He deeply believed in the character, discipline, and values that Scouting instills in young people.

Dave attended the University of Iowa, where he met Judy, who quickly became the love of his life, and where he became a devoted lifelong Hawkeyes fan. He earned his dental degree in 1969, married Judy, and completed his orthodontics residency before moving to Edina in 1971, where he built an orthodontics practice he was deeply proud of. He saw every patient who walked through his door as someone whose day he could make a little brighter. "It doesn't cost anything to be kind" was his philosophy, and over the years, he brought smiles to thousands of people in more ways than one.

Dave and Judy joined Christ Presbyterian Church when they first moved to Edina, and it became a cornerstone of their life together. They attended a Cursillo retreat that played an instrumental role in both of their spiritual formation. Dave's faith continued to grow through years of Community Bible Study and decades of weekly breakfast with a small group of dear friends.

Outside the office, Dave coached his boys' basketball teams, played racquetball, and loved to play golf and travel. He and Judy were blessed with extraordinary friendships and enjoyed years of gourmet club dinners and gatherings with their Mariners group. Dave was a devoted and passionate Timberwolves fan, and as an original season-ticket holder, he and Judy spent countless cold winter nights cheering them on at the Target Center. In retirement, he became a self-taught stained-glass artist who loved creating beautiful pieces to share with family and friends. He knew how to live well and how to love the people around him while doing it, and in his latter years, those who knew him best saw him grow gentler and more empathetic.

Dave is survived by his sons, Jeff (Cameon), Brian, and Scott; grandchildren, Megan and Alex; sisters, Kate Hardwig and Barb Bridges; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Donna) Johns and Rick (Helle) Johns, and sister-in-law, Mary Castrogiovanni; and many nieces and nephews.
