Mpls - Dale Warren Borgeson, born September 24, 1950, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away on May 17, 2026, in his hometown after a courageous battle with cancer and its complications.

Dale was a Minneapolis kid through and through, but his life took him far beyond the Twin Cities. In March 1969, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served with distinction until April 1976. During that time, he completed two tours aboard the supercarrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) and was stationed in the Philippines and at Miramar Naval Base in San Diego, California. It was also in San Diego that he taught sailing at the yacht club, sparking a lifelong love affair with the water and the wind. After his honorable service, Dale returned home and enrolled at the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. He went on to build a distinguished career at Rosemount Engineering, a division of Emerson Electric, where he designed and tested measurement devices and integrated circuits for industries ranging from nuclear energy to petroleum refining. By his own cheerful admission, he was something of a geek, and he wore that title proudly.

If Dale wasn't tinkering with electronics, he was probably in the garage with one of his motorcycles, and there were always several. He loved the open road, whether circling the Great Lakes, crossing the United States, or joining an adventure ride from Peru down to Patagonia. He was a devoted member of the Lake Calhoun (Bde Mka Ska) sailing club, where he raced, set courses, and served as a racing official. He also gave back to his community by teaching motorcycle safety for the state of Minnesota. Dale loved cars, too, especially their electronic workings, and he could happily spend hours fine tuning systems most people didn't know existed.

Above all, Dale was a talker, a reader, and a man of boundless curiosity. If you asked him a question, you'd better settle in, because the answer was going to be thorough, fascinating, and probably longer than you expected. He wasn't much of a cook, but he could hold court on just about everything else.

Dale is survived by his sister, Lynn Carol Borgeson; his brothers, Todd David Borgeson and Bruce Wesley Borgeson; his nephew, Ryan Wesley Borgeson; and his niece, Marta Eugenia Borgeson.

A memorial gathering will take place at Richfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 27, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., with refreshments and an opportunity to mingle with friends and family. May he find fair winds, calm seas, and an open road ahead.www.GILLBROTHERS.com
