Mpls - Cameron, Constance "Connie" Passed away peacefully early in the morning of July 7th at the Jones- Harrison Memory Care Unit after a long battle with dementia. Connie was born on April 27, 1943, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. She excelled as a student and in student activities there in the public school system, also spending a summer in Greece with an AFS program. Connie attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis, majoring in both mathematics and speech and drama. She began her long teaching career teaching math in the Hopkins school system. After a lengthy break from teaching until the last of her sons finished elementary school, Connie returned to the classroom with the Minneapolis public school system. Her assignments there included hospital classrooms and the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center. She completed her teaching career working for many years for Independent District 287 in West Metro, with the Mentor Connection, a fine program helping students find mentors in their proposed fields, and guiding their academic exploration. In 1970, Connie married Bill Cameron, starting a wonderful partnership which lasted for just over 55 years. She was an exceptional Wife, Mother, Grandmother and a friend to many. She had a deep sense of caring for others. Among her interests were travel, cooking, organizations like the League of Women Voters, and as a great hostess, just spending time with good friends and family. Connie was also a fine writer, adding special messages to the annual holiday cards the family sent out. Connie is survived by her husband Bill, her sons who deeply loved and honored her, Tim, Todd and his partner Ali Seanger, and David and his wife Kelly and grandsons Andrew (age 11) and Jack (age 8). She is also survived by her brother Robert Ekeren and many cousins and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Lucille Ekeren, her brother Thomas Ekeren and twin daughters born prematurely, Jenny and Carrie Cameron. A memorial service/celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 12th, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4537 3rd Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55419 in the Gymnasium. Visitation starting at 10 am, service at 11 am, followed by a lunch. Service will be livestreamed. Memorials preferred to a human rights or arts organization of your choice.
