He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Stephen Flynn, his brothers and sister and wife, Rosemary (Dec 22, 2020.) He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Michael (Vicki), Mary (Andrew Anderson), Tom (Laura) and David (Shanna), 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and cherished relatives and friends. He was born in Hibbing, MN. Bud attended the University of Minnesota and received his B.S. degree in 1951. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry with a D.D.S. degree in 1955 and married Rosemary Medved of Chisholm. He entered the U.S. Army in 1955 and served in the Dental Corps in Colorado Springs, Colorado until his honorable discharge in 1957. Bud opened his dental practice in Edina, Minnesota in 1957. Truly a family practice, it is now in the third generation. Dr. Rachel Holm has purchased the practice from her parents, Dr. Mary Flynn and Dr. Andrew Anderson and they are carrying on the tradition of serving generations of patient families. Bud was very involved in organized and volunteer dentistry. He worked in the Children's Dental Service Clinics treating children of low-income families for 37 years, served on the board and became Executive Director for 5 years. He received the McKnight Award for Human Service. He was an active member of the American Dental Association, and volunteered on both state, local level and university committees and the board of directors. He was very involved with his dental fraternity, Psi Omega, and received an Alumni Award for his 38 years of service in 1995. He was active in his church, St Patrick's of Edina. He served on various committees, the parish council, taught religious classes and was a member of the choir. He was a member and officer of the local Optimist Club. He loved to share a new joke at the weekly meetings. He spent many hours disassembling engines and other machines to collect metals to recycle and sell for monetary donation to the Optimist Club. A few of his favorite duties were teaching disadvantaged kids how to fish, mentoring, and involvement with scholarships and community holiday events. He loved kids! Bud and "First and Only Mate" Rosemary had a passion for boating and all the wonderful friends they met through their volunteering and membership with the Minnetonka Power /Sail Squadron. His membership started in 1977, and he achieved the rank of Senior Navigator and taught classes in navigation and seamanship. He continued to meet with his colleagues for lunch weekly and enjoyed every minute! He cherished his position as a chaplain for the Squadron, sharing his love of the Lord. Their 1975 boat, named the Lazy Sea Dog, is still cruising around Lake Minnetonka, captained by their daughter Mary and husband Andy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and traveling with both friends and all his children. Bud loved bird watching, reading, jokes, live theater and music. Sunday Breakfast with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a highlight of his week. Family is everything. He would always say "Thank you for all you do for me." A wise, loving and wonderful mentor. You will truly be missed! A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 2nd, 2025 at the Church of St Patrick's, Edina, Mn. Reviewal Visitation 10:00 am, Service 11:00 am. Memorial wish: Alzheimer's Foundation in honor of my beautiful and loving wife Rosemary. www.GILLBROTHERS.com
