Tucson, AZ - Charles ("Chuck") Nels Thompson, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep in Tucson, Arizona on January 4, 2026.
Chuck was born in 1943 to Kermith and Ardyce (Doty) Thompson in Fresno, California. After graduating from Dell Rapids High School in 1961, Chuck's lifelong career and passion in software development allowed him to be a natural leader and sought-after executive who played a transformative role in countless projects and teams, worldwide.
Chuck was an avid musician and athlete, who had a passion for both playing and teaching/coaching. Playing the "Maple Leaf Rag" on the piano, Bach's cello suites and many years of fast pitch softball with the Stingers and Tappers, were some of his favorite hobbies and wonderful gifts passed on to his daughters.
Chuck married Janet (Daugaard) Schwahn in 1962 and were blessed with 2 daughters; Katherine (Kate) has 3 daughters, 8 grandkids and 1 great-grandkid and lives in Minnesota, as does Kristine (Kristy) who has 2 daughters and her husband Jeff who has 2 daughters and 1 son.
In 1973, Chuck married Marilyn and were blessed with 2 daughters; Susie (Jay) and 4 children live in Philadelphia near to mother, Marilyn. Diane (Marcus) has one child and lives in Arizona. Marilyn and Chuck celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary last year.
Chuck is survived by his wife Marilyn, his daughters and much extended family. Sisters Sharon (Vince) Small and 2 daughters, 6 grandkids and 8 great-grandkids; Linda (Richard) Buechler with 4 kids, 16 grandkids and 10 great-grandkids; Deb Van Doren and 2 daughters, 5 grandkids and 5 great-grandkids; Carla (Steve) Barth and 2 sons, 1 grandkid; Brother Ray (Luana) Thompson and 1 son, 4 grandkids.
