Shoreview - Age 85, of Shoreview, passed away on December 31, 2025. Preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Hilda (Olson) Nelson; and sisters, Aurel Jacobson and Bonnie Lykken. Survived by his wife of 66 years, Marlys; children, Brent (Beth) Nelson and Kim (Jeff) Beecham; grandchildren, Chelsea (Dustin) Russell, Jace (Shannon) Nelson, Dane (Marlene) Beecham, and Blaire Beecham; and four great-grandchildren. Chuck was born in Grafton, North Dakota, where he enjoyed a childhood filled with adventure, hunting, sports, and close family ties. As a teenager, he worked for his father's construction company, developing a strong work ethic and practical problem-solving skills. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of North Dakota and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1969, Chuck joined the University of Minnesota as an Assistant Professor, where he was known for his research and dedication to mentoring students. In 1979, Chuck co-founded CNA Consulting Engineers with his wife, Marlys. His work included major projects: Lafayette Bluff and Silver Cliff Tunnels on the North Shore, University of Minnesota underground Civil Engineering building and Anderson Library, MSP Airport Light Rail Tunnel, and extensive infrastructure tunnels throughout the Twin Cities. Chuck loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping, passions that shaped many family vacations and lasting memories. Above all, he was devoted to his family and to his partnership with Marlys, the love of his life. A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 27, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. (sharing of memories at 4:30 pm) at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home (Roseville), 2130 N. Dale St. at County Rd. B. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
