Charles W. Hommeyer (Chuck) Obituary

St. Paul, MN - Charles W. Hommeyer, 95, of Wayzata, passed away on August 1, 2025, following a brief illness. In recent years, he had been living in St. Paul to be closer to family.

Chuck was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 29, 1930, the son of Paul and Grace Hommeyer. He married Ann Williams in El Paso, Texas, on July 27, 1954. Together, they raised their family in Minnetonka before later moving to Orono.

Chuck attended Blake School, Colgate University, and the University of Minnesota. He served two years in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant. Chuck also studied at U Penn's Wharton School, and later earned his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) certification. He rose to become Minneapolis Branch Manager at Union Central Life, before becoming a partner and owner at the Caswell Ross Agency in 1975, where he served as president for many years. Among other honors, Chuck was a multi-year Million Dollar Round Table recipient.

He grew up on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, where he developed a lifelong love of swimming and sailing. A competitive swimmer at Blake School, Chuck continued his passion for water sports as a longtime member of the Minnetonka Yacht Club, racing D-Scow sailboats with his brothers, friends, and other family members. He also embarked on open-water sailing adventures on Lake Superior, and the Salish, Caribbean, and Aegean Seas.

In addition to sailing, Chuck enjoyed tennis, skiing, dancing, gardening, duck hunting, world travel, and canoeing in the BWCA. He and Ann shared a deep commitment to community and were active in civic affairs in Orono.

Above all, Chuck cherished time with family and friends, especially his beloved wife, Ann. The two were a devoted and inseparable couple. He was known for his sharp sense of humor and the wild, imaginative stories he delighted in telling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Chuck is survived by his sons: James A. Hommeyer and his wife, Penelope, of Groton, MA; William P. Hommeyer and his wife, Jill van Koolwijk, of St. Paul; and Steven C. Hommeyer and his wife, Susan, of St. Paul. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his brother, Paul H. Hommeyer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, and his brother, John A. Hommeyer.

A private family celebration of his life will be held this autumn. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in his name to St. Luke Presbyterian Church, 3121 Groveland School Rd, Wayzata, MN 55391.
