Charles Floyd DeVet (Chuck) Obituary
New Richmond, WI - Charles (Chuck) Floyd DeVet, 87, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and compassion.
Born on April 27, 1939, in Escanaba, MI, Chuck was the son of Charles V. and Eleanor (Derwin) DeVet. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Reece Anthony; his wife of 51 years, Patricia Ann "Patty" (Nelson) DeVet; and his sister, Annette Benidt.
Chuck is survived by his son, Roberto (Catherine Klarkowski); daughters Linda (James Curtis), Annetta (Joss Berrett), and Sumei; honorary daughter Thao Nguyen; grandchildren, Camille, Sebastien, Ricardo, Sabreena, Antonio, and Reece Vincent; and great-grandchildren, Hailey, Lacey, and Dylan.
Chuck believed that helping others was simply what you did if you could. Whether coaching youth sports, mentoring young people, opening his heart through adoption, or supporting children halfway around the world, he lived with quiet generosity and found his greatest joy in helping others succeed.
Raised in St. Paul, Chuck attended Saint Paul Central, where he captained the Minutemen football team. After serving as a medic in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, he graduated from the University of Minnesota through the GI Bill, served as President of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and became a lifelong Gopher fan. He was later inducted into Saint Paul Central's Alumni Hall of Fame for his philanthropic work.
Meeting in Portland OR, Chuck and Patty built a home in Prior Lake, MN filled with love, family, and service to others. Together they raised their family and were active members of the community.
Chuck enjoyed a successful career in banking and finance with Security Pacific Bank, Banc One, and Wells Fargo before retiring in 2002.
He devoted much of his free time to coaching youth sports through P.L.A.Y., mentoring through Big Brothers, and serving on the Board of Crossroads Adoption Services, through which he adopted three of his children.
Following retirement, Chuck co-founded Humanitarian Services for Children of Vietnam (HSCV) with his daughter, Annetta. What began with a simple mission to help children stay in school has grown into an organization creating opportunities for children and families in Vietnam. Few things brought Chuck greater happiness than seeing young people given opportunities they otherwise may have never had.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to HSCV to continue Chuck's legacy of helping children and families. Donations may be made at www.hscv.org
