Maple Grove - Carolyn M. Moravec, of Maple Grove, MN. Beloved mother, wife, and grandmother, passed away unexpectedly in Albuquerque, NM on April 18, 2025. She was a life-long educator, avid reader, and prolific quilter. She cherished her family, many friendships, sewing groups, book clubs, and church. Preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Moravec, with whom she enjoyed 32 beautiful years of marriage filled with travel and adventures. They relished spending time between their homes and communities in Maple Grove, MN; Maui, HI; and Mesa, AZ.
Thomas J. Moravec, of Maple Grove, MN, passed away on March 10, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona. Tom was a physicist who earned his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and who held 40 patents in optical and lens technology. He loved biking, blackjack, tinkering, and playing card games with friends at homes in Arizona, Minnesota, and Hawaii. Tom made the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in Thailand during the Vietnam era. Tom and his family enjoyed traveling far and wide, and he especially loved the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. Preceded in death by his first wife of 24 years, Sandra Moravec.
They are survived by their children J. McClanahan, Joy McKnight (Bill), Kelly Moravec (Scott Rogers), and Amy McClanahan (Mike Lund, Lane and Michaela), and their two grandchildren Liam McKnight and Lena Lund.
Please join us in celebrating their lives at Maple Grove Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 27th. Welcome at 1:30 pm followed by a service at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, Tom and Carolyn wished to have the following charities considered: University of Nebraska Foundation, University of Wisconsin Foundation, Masonic Home Foundation (Plattsmouth, NE), CROSS Services (Rogers, MN), CEAP (Brooklyn Park, MN), and Second Harvest Heartland (St. Paul, MN).
