Carl Sherwood Nelson
Nelson, Carl Sherwood 75, of Chanhassen died on February 22 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Carl was born in Moline, Illinois. He was the second eldest of Virginia and Sherwood Nelson's four boys all of whom inherited their parents' artistic talents. Carl graduated from the University of Illinois in Graphic Design in 1971. While at the U of I, he sang in the Varsity Men's Glee Club and was a founding member of "The Other Guys" an eight man acapella group that is celebrating it's 55th year anniversary. Carl was "Mr. Bass Man". He worked in advertising and eventually was a partner with Russ Chance in "Chance Nelson & Associates Advertising". At the end of his working career, he taught various design related courses at Dakota County Technical College.
He was passionate about painting and enjoyed hours in his studio and journaling through art while traveling. He did commission work as well as exhibiting in various shows and galleries. Carl also loved to paint with his children and grandchildren.
Carl married Marsha Johnson, a fellow Moliner, in 1972 and they enjoyed 52 joyous years together. Carl loved life and had many interests: music, dancing, tennis, swimming, biking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, reading and most of all painting. The joke with many friends and family was "Where's Carl?", because he would wander off taking photos or painting.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Marsha, his three children Luke (Kimberly) Nelson, Emily (Nathan) Rust, and Jeffrey Nelson. His three beloved grandchildren are Henrik and Peder Nelson, and Evelyn Rust. He is also survived by his three siblings David (Linda) Nelson, Paul (Linda) Nelson and Tom (Debby) Nelson.
A funeral service will be at St Andrew Lutheran Church, 13600 Technology Dr. in Eden Prairie on Thursday, April 10th with visitation at 1:00, service at 2:00. Memorials can be directed to St Andrew Lutheran Church (www.standrewlu.org) or Friends of the Boundary Waters (www.friends-bwca.org)
Carl's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Park Nicollet Hospice for the expert and tender care that they helped provide for him in his final days.
Carl will be forever in our hearts as he leaves us missing a kind, gentle and artistic man.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
