Marana, AZ, Arizona - Bettie (Holvik) Hunchis passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 19, 2025, in Marana, Arizona, with her beloved husband by her side. Formerly of Edina & Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Bettie lived a life filled with love, faith, joyful connection.

Born on March 29, 1935, in Mason City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl & Anna May (Shire) Holvik. Carl was a Norwegian immigrant; Bettie was proud of her heritage. She graduated from Mason City High School, where she was a majorette, & Drake University, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. Bettie taught elementary school in Mason City & Bloomington, Minnesota, for ten years.

On August 27, 1960, Bettie married William Joseph Hunchis at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City. Their 65-year marriage was a testament to their everlasting love. Bettie's greatest joy was her family—her husband, children, & grandchildren—whom she supported with encouragement, laughter, & unconditional love.

A devout Catholic, Bettie found purpose through her church, Guild, & PEO sisters. She had a gift for making people feel seen & loved, never passing by a child without a wave or kind word. She was known for her joy in telling jokes & brightening every room with humor.

Bettie enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge, bible study, bingo, & embraced lifelong learning.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Carleen Holvik & identical twin Bonnie Holvik Nelson; sister-in-law, Marrianne Reynolds; brothers-in-law, John Hunchis & William Reynolds; & nephews, Billy Reynolds & Tommy Frisk.

She is survived by her husband, William (Bill); brother, Carl (Mary) Holvik Jr.; sisters-in-law, Katy (Lowell) Hunchis Holden & Carol Hunchis; children, Kimberly (Daniel) Hanson & Bill (Jennifer) Hunchis; grandchildren, Lilyana May, Cooper, Jacob, and Ryan; & many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of AMADA Senior Care, Sauro Ranch Assisted Living, & Aria Hospice for their extraordinary care & compassion.

A family gathering to celebrate Bettie's life will be held Saturday, October 11, at Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.
