Blaine - Amborn, Bernadine (Bernie) Darling 95, of Blaine, MN, passed peacefully on April 24, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids after a brief hospitalization. Born on November 13, 1929, to Hazel and Vinal Elwood in New Auburn, WI, she married Ivan Amborn on June 9, 1951, in Pierre, SD. They moved to Superior, WI, where they raised two children, Randy Amborn and Tammy Nihart, and later relocated to New Brighton, MN. As a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend, she loved making people laugh and bringing joy to those around her. She was primarily a homemaker, but also worked a variety of what she called "no-mind jobs;" working at a frozen pizza factory, demonstrating food items at grocery stores, and clerking at a card/gift shop; which were good outlets for her outgoing personality and often outrageous sense of humor. Later in life, Bernie enjoyed domestic and global travel, visiting over 20 countries, including annual visits to Mexico with her sister Geri Ingvaldson. For several years, she tirelessly provided in-home care for Ivan during his declining health until his death in 2005. Bernie is survived by her children; Randy Amborn (Marla) and Tammy Nihart (Jim); her brother, Jim Elwood (MaryLou); four grandchildren, Jason Nihart (Jocelyn), Brian Nihart, Michael Nihart (Colleen), and Marissa Woodruff (Justin); and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Vinal Elwood; her husband, Ivan; and her sister, Geri Ingvaldson. The family wishes to thank the compassionate care teams at Edgewood Senior Living Blaine and the Mercy Hospital Emergency Department and Floor 5 East. Per Bernie's wishes, her body was donated to the University of Minnesota Anatomy Bequest Program, helping to advance medical research. There will be a private memorial service.
