St. Paul, MN - Arne Langsetmo, age 71, passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2026. Born October 9, 1954, in Meldal, Norway, to Peder and Kirsten Langsetmo, Arne lived a life defined by a relentless curiosity that spanned continents and disciplines.
Professionally, Arne was a highly skilled systems programmer, but his true passions lay in the pursuit of knowledge, the strategy of bridge, and the call of the open sea. After a distinguished career in technology, he embraced a life "afloat," sailing the world and capturing the ocean's hidden beauty through underwater photography. He was also a fierce advocate for justice and transparency, while always maintaining a deep connection to his Norwegian heritage.
Arne was predeceased by his parents and his older brother, Knut. He is survived by his sisters Ingrid (Steve), Ellen, and Lisa; his niece Signe; his nephews Tomas (Fe) and Andrew (Paola); and his devoted partner, Barb Owens.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, at the Celtic Junction Arts Center, 836 Prior Ave. N., St. Paul, MN 55104.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arne's memory to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Doctors Without Borders, or the Ocean Conservancy.
