In loving memory of Anne Christine Borgen

Anne Christine (Loken) Borgen, age 84, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2025 with her husband (Dan) of 63 years by her side. She was born in Shawano, Wisconsin to Clarence and Lillian (Lillehei) Loken on September 13, 1940. The family later relocated to Viroqua, Wisconsin.
Anne excelled at academics her entire life, graduating as the co-valedictorian of her high school class in Viroqua, before attending Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in nursing.
Anne met her husband Dan Borgen at Saint Olaf and they married a few months after graduation on August 4, 1962.
They moved to Madison, Wisconsin where Dan went to medical school and oldest daughter Amy (Gumer Alvero) was born, while Anne pursued graduate education in social and intellectual history. During the Vietnam War, Dan served in the National Indian Health Service and the family relocated to Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where daughter Julie was born.
After four years in Iowa City, Iowa, where Dan completed his orthopedic surgery residency the family settled in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, where Anne lived out her life.
She was an active member of The League of Women Voters in Golden Valley for 45 years. She was proud to serve as State League President for several years. Anne was a devoted wife and mother who raised her daughters, created a beautiful home and grew enviable flower gardens. She was an expert seamstress who sewed curtains and pillows for her own homes, as well as for Amy and Julie over the years.
Anne and Dan were partners in Woodhill Farms, in Wisconsin for over 40 years, raising Black Angus cattle and building a second home that they loved there, along with a thriving business.
Over the years they traveled extensively, taking trips all around Europe, the United States and to Australia and New Zealand. For several years after Dan retired they enjoyed spending the winters in Corrales, New Mexico where they rode their Norwegian Fjord Ponies and spent time with new and old friends.
Anne loved dogs and the family raised three Airedales, a Black Lab and a Miniature Schnauzer. Their beloved Airedale Teddy accompanied Anne and Dan everywhere in their retirement years and brought them endless entertainment and joy.
Anne thrived as "Grandma" to Alex and Matt. They enjoyed many adventures together in New Mexico, Minnesota, at the farm and on trips to Alaska, Washington, DC, Chicago and more.
She will be fondly remembered as a gracious hostess, a confidante and good friend.
Anne is survived by her husband Dan, daughters Amy and Julie, sister-in-law Janet Booe, nieces Lynne and Rachel Bardy, nephew Rick Bardy, along with their spouses and children, and grandsons Alex (Hayley) and Matt (Yuko). he is preceded in death by her parents and brother Tom Loken (Linda).
Anne was laid to rest alongside other relatives in small family ceremony at the Viroqua Cemetery in Viroqua, Wisconsin.
