Ann Robertsen Obituary
Minnetonka, MN - Ann Robertsen, 92, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt died peacefully in her sleep at her home May 14 from stomach cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Esther Holton, her sister Carole McGee and brother William Holton, and her husband of 57 years John Robertsen. She is survived by her children Christine Robertsen, Steve Robertsen, and daughter-in-law Peg Robertsen, grandson Al Robertsen and his fiancee Taylor Pawlicki, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Ann was born and raised in the Washington D.C. area where her parents fostered a love of learning, nature, and science. She received a zoology degree from Duke University, and often spoke of observing tide pools and collecting shells on the Atlantic coast as part of a summer marine ecology course. She went on to receive a master's in zoology from the University of Wisconsin Madison, and met her husband there. Her husband's job in microbiology took them to Louisiana, living and working in a public health service hospital community. Work would see them move to central Indiana, and eventually Minnesota, where they lived for over 50 years and raised their family. The family spent many hours outdoors at parks and nature centers: camping, hiking, skiing, and birding. Ann reentered the work force as an aide in the math and science departments at Minnetonka High School, eventually working in computer scheduling. She joined a computer club and maintained abilities to use technology including watching science webinars, shopping on-line, and texting her family throughout her life. She and John enjoyed helping immigrant community members improve their English skills as conversation partners for many years. Her great loves were family and nature. She never missed her children's band concerts. She was active in garden clubs, Project Feeder Watch, and saved many wildflowers from developers by transplanting them. Her stories, wit and humor, and keen intelligence will all be greatly missed, but most by her family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (Christine Robertsen will be notified).
A celebration of life will be held from 2PM - 4PM on 08-09-26 at Lowry Nature Center, Carver Park Reserve, 7025 Nature Center Dr.
