Orono, MN - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Andris "Andy" Polis, who left us on June 25, 2025, at the age of 89. He peacefully took his last breath while being serenaded to the tune of "Love Me Tender". Andy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, coach, and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on December 27, 1935. He was the devoted husband of Christine Polis, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of 65 years. Together, Andy and Christine were not only partners in life but also avid bridge players, forging memories both at the table and in their strong companionship.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Janis and Marta, as well as his brothers, John and Mintauts, and his sister, Guna. His family immigrated from Latvia shortly after WWII and lived in Albert Lea, MN.

Andy's legacy is carried forward by his wife Christine and their five children: Marta Krueger (Dan), Peter Polis (Amy), Paul Polis (Linda), Lisa Harty (Jim), and Michael Polis (Brenda). His family has grown to include 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, with two more anticipated arrivals that he was excited to hear about.

Andy taught 7th grade math at Hosterman Junior High in Robbinsdale school district for thirty-four years. As head coach of the Hosterman chess club, he guided the team to two national titles and was recently inducted into the MN Chess Hall of Fame. He also coached track and field and soccer, where his patience and dedication impacted lives of many young athletes.

Andy loved to capture memories with a video camera, often videotaping weddings for family and friends with his business "APolis Video" and preserving memories throughout the lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Andy will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, patience, and love for his family. As a father, he was a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom, providing guidance and raising his kids with a playful spirit. His legacy of love and kindness will live on in the memories of his family and friends.

Andy's spirit will endure in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held July 20th at 11:00am followed by a celebration of life until 3:00pm. Family and friends are invited to celebrate a life well-lived. The location for both of these events is St. Therese of Corcoran - 19800 79th Place, Corcoran, MN 55340.
