Alan G. Braun Obituary

Golden Valley, Minnesota - In Loving Memory:

Alan Braun

Alan Braun passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of music, recovery, and a passion for life that reached from the baseball diamond to the Alaskan glaciers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Louella Braun, his brother, Tom Braun, Marian Kapphahn (mother-in-law). Alan is survived by his beloved husband, Ken Braun (Kapphahn), Clare Kapphahn (father-in-law), Mark Kapphahn (brother-in-law), Scott Kapphahn (brother-in-law), his niece, Laura Pardo and his nephew, Adam Braun.

A Life of Harmony and Service

A cornerstone of the Twin Cities Gay Men's Chorus, Alan was a visionary supporter of the Chorus. His commitment to the organization was cemented in 2008 when he commissioned original music for the choral oratorio, Through a Glass, Darkly.

In his personal life, Alan walked a path of long-term sobriety and was a pillar of the recovery community. He turned his own journey into a mission to help others, particularly focusing his support on youth organizations, including those serving LGBTQ youth in recovery. His mentorship and advocacy through Alcoholics Anonymous and Avenues for Homeless Youth changed countless lives.

Passions and Adventures

Alan was a legendary Minnesota Twins fan. For decades, he was a walking encyclopedia of player stats, and he was there in person to witness the historic World Series victories in 1987 and 1991. He and his husband, Ken, were avid travelers who loved taking cruises, with their favorite destination being the majestic Alaskan Glaciers. During his early years, Alan also spent much of his time bowling in competitive leagues.

With Heartfelt Gratitude

The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks and gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and staff at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Their compassion, expert care, and support during Alan's final days provided immense comfort to Alan and Ken.
