Kuno, Walter James age 83, of Golden Valley. Born West Carthage, NY, Walter was raised in Oswego, NY. He served in the U.S. Navy, WWII, Western Pacific, from 1943-1946. He trained as a Naval Aviator and also served as a Communication Specialist on the USS Hamul. Walter graduated from Colgate University in 1950. There he studied economics and was also a stand-out baseball center fielder. After graduation, Walter married his high school sweetheart, Zillah (Zee) Osselton of Oswego, NY. Walter's business career was spent entirely with Lehigh Portland Cement Corp. (now Lehigh Heidelburg) from 1950 to 1990. He worked in Buffalo, NY, Washington, DC and moved to Mpls in 1960, where he later retired as a Vice President. Walter was a proud, but humble man who always sought to serve others and never forgot his Depression-era roots. His greatest love was his family to which he gave selflessly. Golf, tennis, opera, travel and gardening were among the hobbies Walt enjoyed. In his later years, Walter battled many illnesses including lymphoma and Parkinson's disease. He fought these battles with grace, dignity and courage. The family wishes to thank all of Walt's many compassionate care providers, with special thanks to Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital, Dr. William Anderson and the staff at Wayzata Internal Medicine. Always smiling, always encouraging, and always full of warmth and caring for others, Walter touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. Survived by wife of 57 years, Zee; sons, Kurt (Linda), Eric and Mark; granddaughters, Erika and Kelsey; brother, Julius (Marge); along with many nieces & nephews. Private interment, Ft. Snelling Cemetery. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to Park Nicollet Foundation c/o Struthers Parkinson's Center or Park Nicollet Cancer Center.
