Nyman, The Rev. Thomas E. age 83, of Marine on St. Croix, MN, died peacefully at home on July 26, surrounded by love and family. Pastor Tom, as he was known to many, led the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church in Marine on St. Croix for 33 years and was a fixture in the Marine community. He will be best remembered as a beloved, Harley Davidson-riding minister; and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; Minnesota Gophers volleyball superfan; and friend to every dog he encountered. Tom was born in Minneapolis in 1939 and graduated from Washburn High School before attending the University of Minnesota. College was interrupted to serve in the Marines. He finished his bachelor's degree at Carthage College. Tom was called by a higher power and enrolled at Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary in the Twin Cities, becoming an ordained minister. He was a longtime chaplain for the Washington County Sheriff's Department, and in retirement Tom enjoyed serving the congregation of the Chapel by the Sea, Captiva Island, FL. His ministry also extended to Mission Jamaica; he led volunteers on annual service trips to a Jamaican orphanage. Tom is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda; his sons, David (Kelly) and Thomas (Kelly); stepdaughter, Charlotte (Mark); stepson, Steven (Janine); 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; nieces Katherine (Elon) and Anna (John); and his loyal Australian cattle dog, Spot. A memorial service will be held at 4pm Sunday, Aug. 20, at Christ Lutheran, 150 5th St., Marine, MN, with visitation preceding the service, 2:30-4pm, and potluck to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Christ Lutheran Church or Mission Jamaica.
