Berglund, Dr. Robert Feb. 17, 1930 - Sept. 24, 2024 Dr. Robert Berglund, a distinguished figure in the world of music, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, and went to his heavenly reward. Born on February 17, 1930, Dr. Berglund dedicated his life to the pursuit of musical excellence and education. His ongoing primary motivation and purpose was to glorify God in everything he did. Dr. Berglund served as Professor of Music at Bethel College (now Bethel University), where he was the Bethel Choir Conductor and Chairman of the Music Department from 1959 to 1995. His leadership and passion for music left an indelible mark on the institution and its students. In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Berglund was the Director of Music at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church from 1969 to 1995, the largest Lutheran congregation in the United States. In 1972, he founded and was the first Musical Director of the Minnesota Chorale, a position he held until 1976. His work enriched the cultural landscape and brought joy to countless individuals. Dr. Berglund held a BS and MA from the University of Minnesota and an Ed.D. from Colorado State College (now Northern Colorado University). Beginning with his youthful association with conductor Antal Dorati in 1956, he prepared choirs for performance with the Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, showcasing his exceptional talent and dedication to the arts. He was also a composer and arranger of sacred choral music and has authored several publications in the areas of church music and worship, as well as in aesthetics. Predeceased by his parents, Howard S. Berglund and Agnes Rachel "Dolly" Berglund, Dr. Berglund is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret; his son, John (Kathy); his daughter, Jacqueline Kay Berglund Adickes (Mark); and his cherished grandchildren, Daniel Berglund (Ashley), Stephanie Berglund, Andrew Berglund, Sophia Adickes Shipley (David), Micah Adickes (Erin), Gabriella Adickes, Elijah Adickes, and Eva Adickes. A private family burial will be held, with a memorial service to be announced at a later date.
