Rita Walker Obituary

Walker, Rita Eleanor "B-R Lady" It is with humble hearts that we announce the passing of Rita Eleanor Walker on Thursday, October 3rd; the ice cream queen of all time. Rita owned the Baskin-Robbins in Edina for 22 years. She was known universally for her homemade ice cream cakes and pies- and of course assisting the thousands of patrons that visited the store. Most summer nights included those that waited for their turn while standing outside. Even a special cake order that had to travel was met with the comic section all rolled up like insulation to make sure it got there safely. Others might know her from her 20 years of Travelers Assistance at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport hand- ling every day about 100 or more questions. Rita often would take items from the lost-and-found and go through a number of gates just to make sure the passenger would not leave anything at the airport. To her family, she was the work-horse, doing things like laundry, making dinner, cleaning (the family did their part too), and attending church with perfect attendance. Rita never complained about any of the tasks. Sundays were always special. Besides Lawrence Welk-which us kids enjoyed a great deal-she would often times have puzzles on a table, any kind of game, fireplace in winter, and of course popcorn. Rita always had a little popcorn with her butter! Rita grounded her faith with Jesus every day but in particular on Sunday. Rita always enjoyed the sermon and would ask the kids oftentimes for their direction we should take in our lives. Rita always looked forward to a noteworthy Bible study. Additionally, she would leave tracks around shopping malls, grocery stores, and the airport. She consistently mentored a few young ladies hoping to turn them to Jesus for their faith. Rita always had a glimmer in her eye for her grandchildren; Alissa, Zach, Melanie, and Anna. She had lots of pictures of the girls and Zach! If you want to see the collage of pictures, be sure to attend the funeral. Please send flowers to Washburn-McReavy at 5000 West 50th Street and Highway 100, Edina, MN 55436. No donations please. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, October 26 at 1:00pm with visitation 1 hour prior at the chapel. Burial at Lakewood Cemetery, Hastings, MN. www.Washburn-Mcreavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996 5000 West 50th Street @ Hwy 100
