Nelson Rev. Maynard L. Nelson, 72, of Phoenix, passed away on May 27, 2003, surrounded by his wife of 45 years, Nancy, and his five children, Scott, Sandy, Susan, Sally and Sarah. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren. Maynard was Senior Pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church of Golden Valley for 22 years until his retirement in 1996, after serving congregations in North Dakota and Washington. He was Chair of the Board of Regents of Golden Valley Lutheran College, and a member of the boards of Augsburg College, Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, and Fairview Riverside Hospital. A memorial service at Calvary will be held on Friday, June 6, at 2 PM. Suggested memorials are to Calvary for either the Maynard and Nancy Nelson Missionary Scholarship Fund at Calvary or the Mazahua Indigenous University Center of Atlacomulco, Mexico.
