Max J. Tjaden Obituary

Tjaden Max J., 62, businessman, civic leader. Max Tjaden died peacefully December 8, 2002 in Minneapolis, MN. He was a devoted husband to Marsha J. Hartley Tjaden for 36 years. Born in Rockwell City, Iowa, July 11, 1940, Max attended local schools including Wartsburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where he majored in business administration. Upon completion of his schooling, and, of his 2 year service to our country in the U.S. Army, Max began his remarkable business career. For 19 years, Max worked for Hallmark Cards, Inc. of Kansas City, MO, in retail sales development account relations and territory expansion. Following his career, Max owned several Hallmark stores in Mankato, MN for 15 years, the largest one being T.J.'s Hallmark Card Shop. Max became a member of the Mankato Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and its President in 1990-'9. He was a strong supporter of his church, the United Way, and the Minnetonka Center for the Arts. Max is survived by his wife, Marsha; parents, Herbert & Margaret Tjaden of Manson, Iowa; nephew, Scott Tjaden & grand-nephew, Brady Tjaden of Willmar, MN. No matter where Max & Marsha lived, they attracted a large number of friends. Max's legacy of hard work, family values, determination, philanthropy and patriotism will continue many generations. Memorial service will be Fri., Dec. 13, 2002 at 1 pm, with visitation one hour before at St. James Lutheran Church, 3650 Williams Dr., Burnsville, MN. Private interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. James Lutheran Church, Youth & Children Ministry. Washburn-McReavy Eden Prairie Chapel 952-975-0400
