Zak Mary Zak McAbery, age 75, of Cape Coral, Florida. Died peacefully in her sleep on December 7, 2002. She was born on July 24, 1927 to Louis and Esther Knopp in Mahtomedi, Minnesota. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L. Zak. She is survived by her husband, Bruce McAbery; children, Robert (Sandra) Zak, Douglas (Christine) Zak, Daniel (Bonita) Zak and Patricia (fiance Louis Newell) Zak; grandchildren, Sarah (Orlando) Flores and Joseph Zak; great-grandchild, Jesse Michael Flores, and her beloved kitties, Amos and Mandy. Mary was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was a substitute teacher and a faithful Red Cross volunteer. Mary served on the Mahtomedi school board and the former 916 Vo-Tech board of directors. An avid bridge player, she also volunteered at the Cape Coral Hospital Birthing Center. After cremation, a private memorial was held in Cape Coral on December 10. Mary will be sadly missed by her family and friends, so a celebration of her life is planned for Wednesday, December 18 from 6 to 8 pm at the White Bear Country Inn.
