Mabel Skaff Obituary

Skaff, Mabel Age 86, longtime Spring Lake Park resident, died on February 3, 2014. A dedicated elementary teacher in Spring Lake Park School District 16 from 1957 until her retirement in 1989, Mabel taught at Westwood and Park Terrace Elementary Schools. She was a gourmet cook and wine connoisseur who loved to entertain guests in her home, and did so with flair. Mabel appreciated the Twin Cities arts, especially theatre and orchestra; she was a world traveler, an avid Bridge player, golfer, and flower gardener. "Mabel" was synonymous with the color "red" - she always wore red, she decorated with red, she drove red cars - and of course was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was her own woman: outgoing, outspoken, generous; she was proud of her Lebanese heritage, loved family and friends, and was strong in her faith and unafraid to show it. Preceded in death by parents, Ned & Sadie Skaff; siblings, Sam, Mary, Charlie, Bertha, Eddie, Laura, Mae, and Margie; nieces, Theresa Skaff, Charlene Skaff; nephew, Bob Skaff. Survived by nieces, Sandy (Bruce) Callen of Spring Lake Park, Betty Kessler of Luverne; nephews, Dan (Meagan) Skaff of McMurray, PA, Mike Skaff of Omaha, NE; great niece, Jenna Anderson; great nephew, Michael Callen; special friends, Jan Trustheim and Minnie Wyatt; and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Church of St. Timothy, 707 89th Ave NE, Blaine. Visitation 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday with 6:00 p.m. Prayer Service at Miller Funeral Home, 6210 Hwy 65 NE, Fridley. Visitation will continue from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Friday at the church. As a tribute to Mabel, we encourage those who attend the services to wear red. Miller Funeral Home Fridley Chapel (763) 571-1300 www.millerfuneralfridley.com
