Kallestad Leonard L., M.D., expired Apr. 1, 2002 in Largo, FL at the age of 96. Kal was born in Estherville, IA to Charles O. & Mabel Kallestad both of whom preceded him in death. He received his premed degree of the University of ND and his M.D. from the University of MN. As a Captain in the Medical Corps in Oak Ridge, TN, he took part in the Manhattan Project. He returned to MN living and keeping an office in Wayzata and practicing General Surgery in Mpls. until his retirement to Lauderdale-by-the Sea, FL. He was a member of the AMA, American College of Surgeons, and Minneapolis Surgical Society. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Plahn Kallestad; 3 sons, John & wife Barbara, Lake Tahoe, NV, Peter & wife La Voice, Largo, FL, Bruce & wife Katherine, Placitas, NM; 6 grandchildren, Brian & Kelly Kallestad, Pamela & Richard Kutcher, Thor, Leif & Erika Kallestad, Kelway & Sherri Howard III; 4 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Lily & Michelle Kallestad & Cameron Leigh Howard.
