Jeff L. Henninger Obituary

Henninger, Jeff L. Age 44, of Deephaven MN, passed away July 14, 2012 after living a beautiful full life despite life- long Crohn's disease and nearly 3 years with cancer. Jeff was surrounded by family and friends, during in-home hospice, as he made his final transitions out of this body. Preceded in death by mother, Diane Henninger. Survived by wife, Anne Towey Henninger (Huntley); stepson, Alex; father, Jim; brother, Paul and sister-in law, Jean; nephews, Josh, Sam and Nick; in-laws, John and Rose Huntley, and many friends. Born and raised in Minneapolis. Graduate of Orono high school and Cornell College, with a degree in philosophy and computer science. Jeff was an honored and loved husband, father, brother, son, son-in-law, friend and colleague. Whatever activities he became involved in, he dedicated himself to them with great passion. Had a 20+ year career in software engineering as a Senior Consultant. An avid sailor, Jeff did not feel the pain of his disease while racing as a key member of a core team of good friends on Consensus at Wayzata Yacht Club, or as skipper on his I20 at Minnetonka Yacht Club. His stewardship of the earth and lake began at a young age, canoeing many mornings, picking up debris from the lake and disposing of it properly. Fascinated by Lake Minnetonka history, he spent years donating his time and skills restoring the classic steamboat "Minnehaha". Jeff's other passions included nature, photography and music, having collected many classic jazz, soul and blues recordings. Jeff enjoyed spirituality, and continually reread his favorite book from college, The Religions of Man, especially during hospice. Friends and family loved and already miss his perseverance, positive, calm, gentle and wise energy. Jeff's step-son warmed up to Jeff within moments of meeting. It was like they had met before, as many of us felt about him. Jeff enjoyed attending Alex's baseball games, until the end of the season, when Jeff admitted his body had no energy left. Reviewal (9-11 AM) and Celebration of Life Service (11 AM) at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2060 6th Avenue N., Long Lake, on Saturday, July 28, 2012.
