Burton (Luther) Iris Burton , age 91, of Hopkins. Iris Burton was born on a farm near Rockford, MN on September 29, 1911 the daughter of George & Emma (Mutterer) Luther. She was baptized and confirmed at Cross Lutheran Church in Rockford, MN. Her mother died when she was 5 years olds and she lived with relatives and attended school in the Rockford and Thorp, WI areas. She then enteres nurse's training and graduated as a Registered Nurse from a hospital in Red Wing, MN in 1935, after which she started her nursing career at a hospital in York, NE. She then entered private duty nursing in Milwaukee, WI. It was there she met her husband, Richard Edward Burton, and they were married on April 5, 1942. In 1949 she & Richard moved to Minnetonka, MN to be near Iris' father who was ill at the time. She continued her nursing career in the Mpls area, and was one of the first nurses on duty when Methodist Hospital opened, retiring in 1976. Richard died May 9, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Richard & Iris were faithful members of Zion Lutheran Church in Hopkins since moving to the Mpls area.
