Helmin-Novak Gertrude "Gertie", age 82, died June 13 peacefully & very graciously at home surrounded by her family. She was born on Dec. 16, 1920 to William & Rose Novak in a farm house in Benton County, MN. Their family included 8 sisters and 1 brother. She married Henry Helmin in June of 1939 and they had 3 children. They celebrated 50 years of marriage. Her joy in life was her family. She was always optimistic, never judgemental, and always a very caring and giving person. She was a respected wife, a nurturing mother, and a gentle tender, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived a devout Catholic life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her grandson, Jacob who she spent so much special time with. Preceded in death by husband, Henry; son, Chill, and granddaughters, Nicole and Madisen. Survived by son, Darrell & wife, Judy; daughter, Nancy Gengler & husband, Dan; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday 10 am Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 4030 NE Jackson St. Columbia Hts. Interment Epiphany Cemetery. Visitation Monday 5-8 pm at the Miller-Methven Taylor Funeral Home, 831 40th Ave NE, and one hour prior to Mass at church. Prayer service Monday 7 pm.
