Hubbard Elaine Barnes, age 81, of San Diego, formerly of Edina, died Dec. 28, 2002. Preceded in death by husband, Earl. Survived by children, Susan (Charles) and David (Sandy) and grandson, Matthew. A graduate of Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ, Elaine never stopped learning. While working at North American Life Insurance she formed a partnership with the Walker Art Institute and the Guthrie Theatre to enable employees to partake of these cultural institutions. She also developed, broadened and curated the art collection at North American. Her beautiful contralto voice was recognized early in her career with scholarships and recognition including a summer of study at Tanglewood with Lukas Foss. She enjoyed singing for many years in the choir at Plymouth Church in Minneapolis. She spent her life surrounded by the people she loved - pursuing her passion for music, art and nature.
