Engel, Dorothy Ann "Dotti" On the morning of October 27th, 2013 Dorothy Ann Engel left this world to walk with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. Dorothy was born on May 14th, 1935 at home in De Pere, WI to Harold and Agnes (Key) VanDommelen. Dorothy was always proud to be a descendent of Francis Scott Key author of the Star Spangled banner. Dorothy attended St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in De Pere and then Nicollet High School graduating with the class of 1953. In 1958 she met and married Marshall E. Engel and moved to Neenah, WI. In 1964, Marshall, an insurance salesman, was asked to open a new office in the Twin Cities area and Dorothy and Marshall packed their belongings and moved to Minnesota. In 1973, Dorothy and Marshall divorced and Dorothy spent 10 years working at the Minnesota State Bank, then spent another 10 years as parish secretary at St. John the Baptist Church. Dorothy worked for Target for 16 years and enjoyed playing Mrs. Santa Claus for many years at Christmas. Dorothy enjoyed walking the trails near her house, bowling, golfing, and spending time with friends. Dorothy received an award for 25 years of attendance from the Oblate Prayer League. Survivors include Cheryl (Dale) Ambrosius, Teresa (Tim) Geurts, Mary VanDommelen and friend Brian Willems, Laurie (Scott) Van Ryzin. Bill (Sarah) Krouse, Karen Rott, Roy (Kathy) Krouse and many grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Agnes (Key) VanDommelen; sister, Betty (Larry) Krouse; brother, Art (Norma) VanDommelen; many aunts and uncles. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, November 9th, 2013, 11:00 AM at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, 680 Mill Street, Excelsior (952-474-8868). Visitation will take place for one hour prior to Mass at the church on Saturday. Private family interment, De Pere, WI. In lieu of flowers, Dorothy has requested donations to Our Lady of Peace Hospice Home, St. John the Baptist Church, The Kings House. The family would like to thank Dorothy's many friends for all their love and caring, and the staff at Our Lady of Peace Hospice during her final days.
